Dr. Joel Kahn

Dr. Kahn is founder of the Kahn Center for Cardiac Longevity and owner, GreenSpace Cafe in Ferndale, MI. He is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine and Clinical Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Ziggy the Travelling Piggy

Ziggy ignited a passion so strong in Kristin and Jay, that they were compelled to give up their lives in the Virgin Islands, fly to the United States on a private plane that could accommodate their human child in a pig suit, and spread the vegan message far and wide. They accomplished this all from a motor home where they lived with their beloved pig, who would soon be known as Ziggy The Traveling Piggy on Facebook and other social media platforms. Here, they found their calling in North Carolina, where they opened a farm animal sanctuary of their own

Michele Fife WOTV4 Wellness Expert shares her love of animals and all things vegan daily with West Michigan and beyond.  Michele is the co-owner of OMG!Yoga in Rockford and also operates a practice as an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor.  She lives in harmony with nature with her husband, 2 cats, 1 dog and 7 lucky hens.

Rain Truth is a vegan chef, caterer, educator, and proud mother of three vegan children. She has been a vegan for over two decades but introduced to vegetarianism as a child. With formal training at The Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago for Culinary Arts as well as New York’s Main Street Vegan Academy, where she received her certification as a Vegan Lifestyle Coach and Educator, Chef Rain is also a nationally certified ServSafe® Allergens Specialist.  Her mission is to make healthy dining an exciting part of everyone’s lifestyle

Rachel Hipp

Rachel Hipp is a Michigan-based animal rights activist, social worker, and animal caretaker. Rachel currently serves as the Board President for The Microsanctuary Movement, Global Animal Care Team Organizer for Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) and as moderator for the popular Facebook group, Vegans with Chickens. Rachel is the co-founder of Sanctuary Moon, located in Vergennes Township, and has been rescuing formerly “farmed” animals since 2014. Rachel resides with her husband Ryan, 16 roosters, 7 hens, 4 ducks, 2 goats and 11 cats.  

Dan McKernan

Dan McKernan is the Founder and Executive Director at Barn Sanctuary in Chelsea, Michigan. He is a passionate advocate for animal welfare, environmentalism, and living a plant based diet. Dan studied Biology at Quincy University.

Sophia DiPietro

Sophia DiPietro co-founded the vegan organization All Species Kinship (A.S.K.) in 2001 to affect change in the streets, alleviating the suffering of chained dogs, wildlife, and farmed animals. Her background is in wildlife biology, and she has a specialty in avian rehabilitation and care with an emphasis on special-needs medical cases and involved injury repairs of birds. The A.S.K. Sanctuary is home to 125 farmed birds, many of whom were rescued in severe conditions from purportedly idyllic urban farms.

Bob Harvie

Bob Harvie has been a volunteer at SASHA Farm for 20 years and a member of the board of directors since 2003.  He has been a vegetarian since 1986 and a vegan since 1987.  He retired from the telecommunications industry with 44 years of service in 2013 and is a Vietnam veteran.  He has 1 daughter, 2 rescued dogs and 2 cats.

Chef Christine Ferris

 

Chef Christine Ferris is inspired by organic farmers and artisan food markers and chooses the freshest foods to create flavorful, vibrant, and delicious food that is simple and doable. Her focus has been creating plant based foods from scratch for a long time. From The Farmhouse Deli, a Farm to Table Deli, located in Douglas, MI, Chef Christine will be sharing simple, yet doable recipes that you can create at home.

Chef Eric Benedict

Executive Chef Eric Benedict, a Grand Rapids native, spent several years traveling and working across the United States. He launched Embargo 616, a Vegan Pop-Up that utilizes products grown exclusively in the West Michigan Agricultural System. He is the Executive Chef for the new Citizen opening in October 2017 on the Northeast side of Grand Rapids in the Creston neighborhood. Citizen will be a modern Tiki Bar serving Asian-Fusion Cuisine with extensive Vegan offerings.

Chef JR

Chef Jean-Rene’ Renusson literally grew up in the kitchen, taking his first steps in the kitchen of the Chicago Ritz Carlton where JRs father, the world renowned pastry chef, Gilles Renusson, was the head pastry chef. JR launched his company, Bit Baking Co., in 2015, and recently introduced Cheeyeah, a spreadable cheese that melts and is extra gooey. Join us as JR shares his delectable lasagna filled with scrumptious cheese and his newest cookies-Little Bits!

Chef Josh Musinski

Chef Josh Musinski, baker & farmer, has always had a passion for good food. His cuisine is vegetable and fruit forward, celebrating each ingredient. Inspired by his Italian family is a love to craft vegan meats and cheeses, while Chef Josh was the head Chef of Chicago’s Karyn’s on Green and Upton’s Breakroom, he helped create products that are on store shelves. Kristen Green

Kristen Green lost 100 lb on a reducetarian diet and fought chronic pain with a whole food plant based vegan diet. Feeding seven hungry mouths three plant-based meals a day she has learned to be creative and resourceful without compromising nutrition for her family and managing her rheumatoid arthritis. Living healthy and spreading the word, Kristen will be sharing a budget-friendly taco meat with a whole food based sour cream that will make you want seconds!
