As we ring in the new year many resolutions are made, but never kept. So the saying “out with the old, in with the new” is never very relevant. However, this year the Grand Rapids Veg Fest team would like to challenge you every month with a new word/phrase/being to focus on. The thought behind this is to focus on the word or action throughout the month to implement it into your daily life.
The first word we would like to focus on this year is gratitude. Gratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. We feel that being gracious and having gratitude towards others is a great way to start the new year. It is important to love, have compassion for and share kindness to all creatures. Showing our love to strangers and friends and family is easy and extremely fulfilling. Try striking up a conversation with a stranger next time you are in line, at a book store or coffee shop. Get to know your fellow human being and find out more about them and what makes them special. Not only can you strike up a conversation, but send someone you do not know a friendly smile – let them know you care. Sometimes we underestimate the power of a smile.
Gratitude is not only showing our love to family members and our fellow human beings, but it is important to remember that we are grateful for the life we have on this planet and that our singular life matters. Many people take life for granted, but we only have a limited time here on Earth. Our time is never promised and guaranteed, therefore we should be happy and thankful for each day we have. Check out this short video by Kid President who reminds us just how great life is each and every day.
There are more way to have gratitude than striking up a conversation with someone and we want to hear from you. Email us or post on our Facebook and tell us how gracious you are each and every day. How do you share your gratitude?
